Mont Orchid Riverlet Residential Building, Shenzhen
September 5th, 2008 - Posted in Architecture DesignThe American Institute of Architects (Hong Kong Chapter) honoured RMJM’s design for Mont Orchid Riverlet Residential Development in Shenzhen with a Merit Award for Architecture. China Merchant Real Estate retained RMJM when the previous architect was unable to deliver the appropriate design.
The Developer, Beijing North Star Industrial Group, selected RMJM because they were able to complete the Dubai International Convention Centre on time and within budget. “North Star found out that we were the architects,” recalls David Pringle, Managing Director of RMJM Asia. “And since the Beijing Olympic Green National Convention Centre has similar functions, they asked us to bid.
RMJM also won an AIA Merit Award for Urban Design for their Sanlitun Redevelopment Proposal in Beijing. Although this is still at the master planning stage, the firm was cited for their sensitive handling of the historical district. Plus, with the recent completion of the iconic Scottish Parliament Buildings in Edinburgh (a collaboration between RMJM and the late Spanish architect Enric Miralles), the firm is finally receiving recognition on both continents. “Many of the project team who worked on the Scottish Parliament are now working on the Beijing Convention Centre,” says Pringle.
