The powerful, simple, and effective architecture, House N, a series of nesting boxes, another departure from a glorified 3 bedroom 3.5 bath architected ’stravagazna is located in Oita, Japan. Designed by Japanese architect that was born 1971 in Hokkaido, Japan, Sou Fujimoto, collaboration with Yumiko Nogiri, as project team and Jun Sato Structural Engineers, as structural consultant.
This house design is astoundingly transparent even as it is smartly layered to create privacy where needed. Generally, the bedroom is the most private area in our house and we would try to hide away, but House N has a non-traditional design; the bed area is not in the inner most box, but in the second box. Painted in white and the blurred boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, it’s a stunning piece of design.

A home design for two plus a dog. The house itself is comprised of three shells of progressive size nested inside one another. The outermost shell covers the entire premises, creating a covered, semi-indoor garden. Second shell encloses a limited space inside the covered outdoor space. Third shell creates a smaller interior space. Residents build their life inside this gradation of domain.

The larger volume is subtracted asymmetrically, creating a range of experiential moments in the interstitial space around the enclosed dwelling. These subtractions also create a variety of experiences in the more controlled, glassed in volume.
