New Lamp for Plankton, Bird in Hand by J.P.Meulendijks Design Studio

Interior design architecture can function well if the room has a light in it. Natural light we can get from the sun in the morning and afternoon, while the evening we get from the artificial light the lamp. In addition to functioning as a torch, light also functions as an architectural element. Architectural function refers to the form that will display and effects caused by the lamp.

Designed by J.P.Meulendijks design studio, the new lamp for Plankton ‘bird in hand’ suspended light is a green and future-conscious design-label that focuses on environment, ecologic design and sustainability. The lamp is based on, and tribute to the universal art of hand shadows; making shadows on the wall using your hands to create birds, rabbits,and other figures. Playing with light and hand shadows is a centuries old past time long before electric light was invented. “BIRD IN HAND” plays with this concept: All of the hands are positioned to look like a flock of birds, flying out in circles. The shadows cast on the wall looks like birds. This results in a very expressive, dynamic and striking looking lamp, with layers of humor and poetry hidden in the design.

“Our goal is to provide interior products that are produced with a minimal environmental footprint and maximal life-cycle through durable construction and good timeless design with a little poetry and soul. The small and exclusive collection is produced in the Netherlands and available trough a selected network of dealers. A new design will be presented each year. All designs (except “spare”) are made of “ECOLOTEK” a new very environment-friendly compostable material developed by Plankton.” says J.P.Meulendijks design studio.
