The sustainable architecture design is the Bridges Master Plan in Calgary, Canada by Sturgess Architecture. Founded on the Canadian Prairie in 1885, the city of Calgary has sprawled to one million people. In 1914, the General Hospital was built overlooking Calgary’s downtown, physically severing the Bridgeland community from the city. In 1998, it was demolished. A national competition called for the development of a sustainable community on the 37 acre site. Read more »

The Moses Mabhida Stadium is one of South Africa Stadiums that will be one of the host stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The Moses Mabhida Stadium is located in KwaZulu Natal, beautiful City of Durban, South Africa, named after Moses Mabhida, a former General Secretary of the South African Communist Party. Located adjacent the ABSA Stadium in the Kings Park Sporting Precinct – a site located in Stamford Hill, The Durban Kwazulu Natal Moses Mabhida Stadium that includes an adjoining indoor arena, football museum, sports institute, and a transmodal transport station is intended to be a world-class multi-use stadium. The architects and designers on this project were Theunissen Jankowitz Durban, Ambro-Afrique Consultants, Osmond Lange Architects & Planners, NSM Designs and Mthulisi Msimang who together formed the Joint Venture Architectural Team called ‘Ibhola Lethu Consortium’. gmp International was involved in the competition and functional planning stages of the stadium. This year 117 teams of operators and designers from 26 countries took part in the IOC/IAKS Award. In the 20 year old history this competition for sports facilities has never previously seen such number of registered participants. Theater Podium Grotekerkplein in Netherlands by Atelier Kempe Thill architecture design

The Theater Podium Grotekerkplein was designed by architects Atelier Kempe Thill. Situated between the gothic Sint Laurenskerk (Saint Laurens cathedral) and the Delftsevaart canal, the Grotekerkplein was formed only during the course of the modernist reconstruction of the city centre of Rotterdam, which was almost entirely destroyed during WW2. Despite its central location the square hardly plays a role in the city’s life, as no shopping streets connect it to the rest of the city’s public spaces, and only a few facilities are oriented towards the square itself. Instead, a number of building backs define the square’s appearance and atmosphere, leaving it spatially unappealing and dull. Therefore the idea emerged to activate the square programmatically as well as spatially through the construction of a small theater pavilion, in order to fill the displeasing vacuum within the city fabric.
