V house that located in Sydney, Australia is designed to be energy efficient, the house relies on natural cooling, under floor hydrostatic heating together with some solar heating. Perched high atop a hill, the property affords generous views of Bondi Beach, the ocean and the city. The interplay of these views within a north/south orientation, combine with the unusual wedge shaped form of the property, to generate a strong and simple built form. Conceptually, it is a house of three pavilions. Two long pavilions form a ‘v’ around a central courtyard with the 24m pool and garden. One hugs the eastern side boundary, the other, the western side boundary. Both connect via a central glazed double volume entry hall and meals space. The third pavilion in the garden houses the sauna spa and Japanese ‘onsen’ bathhouse.

At the ground level, the eastern pavilion accommodates public living spaces, with the children’s facilities located in the western pavilion. Portions of both pavilions have been utilized on the upper level, to harness the views and orientation to accommodate the master suite, a study and guest suite.
